Aortic Aneurysms

An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is when there is an enlargement or dilation of the aorta - the main vessel that carries blood from your heart to the body, which sits at the level of the abdomen.

Sometimes, walls in the aorta weaken causing them to bulge and sometimes burst spilling blood into your abdomen or chest, which can be a life-threatening condition.

The type of aneurysm you have will depend on its location. A thoracic aortic aneurysm will be located in the chest, while an abdominal aortic aneurysm will be found in your abdomen. Dr Velu is highly skilled and experienced in the treatment of aneurysms using both Endovascular (or minimally invasive “keyhole”) surgery and open surgical repairs.
